Q&A: Are any of the “free” things I “won” that are announced in my Inbox and Bulk folder legitimate winnings?

Question by Copper: Are any of the “free” things I “won” that are announced in my Inbox and Bulk folder legitimate winnings?
I usually just delete without opening, but I’m wondering – are any of these “winnings” for real? How can you tell which ones are good? I have even received “you’re a Yahoo! winner!”, but since I hadn’t entered any Yahoo!-sponsored contests, I also deleted that one without opening. (I even tried to email Yahoo! to check, but received no answer.)

I could use a free laptop (since my college kid’s laptop bluescreened on her). I could use a free season pass to Six Flags (since my kid has never been there, and I haven’t been there since the 80s). I would love to take a cruise (since I’ve never been on one, and I’d love to go to Alaska). I could even use a “year’s supply of M&Ms (well, hey – they’re yummy!).”

I know “there’s no such thing as a free lunch,” but a girl (ok, single mom) can hope, right?

If you know of any legitimate offers, please provide the link or website, and the details of securing the prize.

Thank you! I really appreciate any assistance you can provide.
